Programme profile

In this programme, you'll have the chance to study from three majors (specialisations): Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities.

Within each major, major specialisations allow students to combine different academic disciplines or perspectives into a specific Bachelor programme that fits their interests and future plans. Thus, major specialisations are tailored programmes that fit the interest and the prospective Master choices of the major students.

Examples of possible major specialisations include:
- Physics of Energy
- Health and Life Sciences
- Philosophy, Politics & Economics
- Philosophy, Politics & International Law
- Philosophy, Politics & International Law
- Brain, Behaviour & Culture
- Media, History and Journalism
- Arts, Culture & Philosophy

There is also the possibility of a free major, in which you create your own programme with the help and guidance from an academic tutor.

In addition to your major courses, you will continue to follow the core programme and do integrative projects with students from the other major specialisations, putting your disciplinary theory into practice within a truly interdisciplinary setting.

Programme content

The possible of some of the example majors include:

- Health and Life Sciences: this major provides a comprehensive understanding of mechanisms underlying the normal development and function of humans, and of mechanisms causing disease.

- Philosophy, Politics and Economics: modules include History of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Ethics, Logic, Political Science, International Relations, Microeconomics, Markets & Regulation and International Macroeconomic Theory & Policy. 

Cognition and Behaviour: modules include Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience, Social Environment &  Behaviour, History and Philosophy of the Mind and Society, Social Cognition, Neuropsychology, Cognition and Attention, Gerontology and Perception.

Reflecting on Culture: modules include Cultural History, Cultural Analysis, a chosen art medium (film, television, literature, theatre and music), a chosen historical period, the methods and methodology of the Humanities. 

Physics of Energy: this major includes a broad spectrum of physics modules in topical fields, including magnetism, electricity, mechanics and relativity, thermodynamics and the structure of matter. Electives are offered in the fields of energy and sustainability.

As part of its World Language Programme, all students at UCG can take as an elective course either Dutch, Chinese, Arabic or Spanish for the 3 years of their programme

Progression

The programme prepares you for further study and careers in a wide variety of fields, including business, law, Government, NGO’s, scientific research, the arts, and more.
